DermaPen Skin Needling

A Dermapen is an advanced non-surgical cosmetic procedure used to improve stretch marks, regulate skin pigmentation, treat sun damage as well as rejuvenate and tighten the skin.

What it is?

The Dermapen is revolutionary electronic device that uses multiple fine needles to vertically pierce the skin. This causes collagen remodeling and enhances skin rejuvenation. Unlike needle rollers, Dermapen uses a precisely-controlled stamping method to reach a set depth in the skin while minimizing excess damage to the epidermis.

What happens during treatment?

Using an anaesthetic cream prior Dermapen skin needling is undertaken with minimal discomfort and is quick, taking only 5-10 minutes per treated area.

The Dermapen 3 offers unparalleled collagen induction by harnessing the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin as a response to micro-damage. This small, hand-held device delivers up to 1,300 micro punctures per second into the skin, thus stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and normalizing various skin functions.

Is the treatment safe?

Dermapen skin needling is a safe procedure with very low risks. Infection and scarring are rare. Since no melanin-absorbing laser and no heat are involved, the Dermapen is relatively safer than lasers or IPL, for darker skin types. Dermapen can be used to treat any part of the body. It is very effective in treating sensitive areas such as the face, neck, and chest.

For minimum needle depths Demapen treatments are painless. For treatments over 0.5mm deep, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 20 minutes prioto commencing the treatmnent and renders the treatments completely painfree.

What can i expect post treatment?

There is generally very little bleeding. You may develop effects such as mild swelling, bruising, and redness. You will look slightly sunburned for 24 hours following the treatment which will heal in two to three days. An application of Lycogel, a breathable camouflage will seal the skin. There is generally no down time after your treatment, most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately.

Following your Dermapen skin needling treatment, you must avoid using lotions and moisturisers that contain perfumes, colours, glycolic acids and retinol. Instead, it is recommended that you apply the provided moisturiser for a period of three to seven days. You should avoid exercising for about 24 hours after your Dermapen treatment as sweat can cause a stinging sensation. You should avoid direct exposure to the sun for about one or two weeks after your Dermapen treatment. It is recommended that you regularly use sunscreens.

Typically you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments. The best results will be visible about six to eight weeks after the treatment when the collagen starts to rebuild. The results will be more visible over a period of about a year.

Is there any treatment preparation?

Recommended timeframe

The number of recommended Dermapen treatments depends upon the type of treatment needed and can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.

Am I a good candidate?

A Dermapen treatment can be used safely on all skin types including darker skin and, any part of the body for skin tightening, lifting, rejuvenating, acne scar remodeling, fine wrinkle lines, stretch mark flattening and smoothing.
